After School Club Care & Education

The After School Club operates from a separate building in the grounds of the School. The Club is open term time only from 3.20pm–6pm with our qualified staff collecting the children from School and escorting them back to the Club. The children have supervised access to the extensive playground, climbing apparatus, obstacle course and playing fields of the School.

Inside the club there is table football, a quiet book corner, computers, puzzles, arts and crafts, games and much much more. We encourage completion of homework by all children during each session in accordance with parents wishes

The After School Club offers a healthy, balanced and nutritional high tea at 4.15 pm each day. This menu is subject to change or adapted to suit individual needs, times of the year or ‘themed nights’ of different countries.

School Collection Service
We only operate this service for children attending Long Ridings School. This service is exceptionally safe and secure, as our experienced staff collect/take the children into their classrooms/school hall and return to our premises in the grounds of the School. Children are checked to our daily register and walked the short walk across the School grounds by a minimum of 2 permanent staff. Any other arrangements with a later pick up to accommodate your child in attending after school clubs can be arranged separately with the Room Manager.

Staff
The After School Club operates with 3 permanent qualified staff working from 3-6 pm. Staff are first aid trained. Extra staff cover will be from the main nursery building as required. The Manager and Deputy are based at the main nursery and are contactable by phone or in person at any time. Our staff regularly receive training to keep them up to date with best practice and to refresh them with new ideas.

Children
At Poppetts we encourage the children to actively influence the Club. The children set the club rules with each other and the staff each term and these are displayed for all to see. Together the children and staff agree on what they wish to do over each coming term i.e. art projects, festivals, cookery, sporting events to name but a few as the children are very creative in this area! The children are also consulted for their ideas on toys and equipment for the Club so that the Club is as enjoyable as possible for every child.

We should point out though that many children just want to chill out and relax with their friends after a long hard day at school. With this in mind often children just want to play, chat to friends or run around letting off steam rather than be involved in a supervised activity as they have been during the school day. DVD’s are played as necessary, as this is a great way for tired children to relax if they need to. A computer is available for the children to use for homework or games without Internet access. Children are consulted over the high tea menu and where reasonable their wishes are carried out!
